Background

Sarah (not her real name), a dedicated employee with a history of childhood trauma, experienced a resurgence of symptoms after witnessing a violent fight on her way home from work. This event triggered intense flashbacks, nightmares, hypervigilance, and panic attacks.  Sarah contacted Amplify the morning after the attack and had an appointment that afternoon.

Challenges

  • Trauma Symptoms: Experienced flashbacks, nightmares, and panic attacks.

  • Work Impact: Difficulty focusing and commuting, leading to missed workdays.

  • Emotional Distress: Increased anxiety and distress affecting daily life.

Intervention

Over 4 weekly sessions the intervention began with a comprehensive assessment of Sarah's symptoms, identifying them as potential trauma responses. The Amplify Psychologist coached her to learn and use grounding skills and emotional stabilisation techniques. They also provided  Psychoeducation helping her to understand the physiological and psychological reasons behind these reactions, offering reassurance that her experiences were valid and treatable. At the appropriate time Amplify connected her with a hand picked trauma specialist, accounting for personal preferences for location, gender and therapeutic orientation of the therapist, through her private medical insurance, allowing her to start longer term therapy effectively and appropriately

Outcome

Through Amplify’s intervention, Sarah gained significant reassurance, whilst learning the skills and techniques she needed to cope in the short term. By using her sessions with Amplify to learn how to manage her increased sense of anxiety and panic effectively Sarah was able to take control. This restored her confidence and ensured she could return to work with renewed focus and energy. In time Amplify was also able to connect her to the right therapist via her PMI so she could appropriately process her trauma in the longer term. This enhanced her experience of her employer's wider employee value proposition.
